A talk by Peter Dittmar, Agung Kurniawan and Paul Khoo
Moderator: Katerina Valdivia Bruch
Thursday, September 15th, 2011 at 7 pm
What
does the term cultural contact mean for nomadic artists and art
practitioners? These and other questions about the topic of cultural
exchange will be discussed with the artists Peter Dittmar (Germany),
Agung Kurniawan (Indonesia) and the art historian Paul Khoo (Singapore).
Peter
Dittmar is a German artist who lives between Sydney, Bali and Munich.
He came to Indonesia for the first time in 1982 and since then he was
fascinated by this country. He understands himself as an artist between
different cultures. His current exhibition Windows between Cultures at KUNSTBÜROBERLIN is an extension of his personal artistic view.
For
this occasion, we have invited the Indonesian artist Agung Kurniawan,
one of the most representatives artists in the art scene in
Indonesia. He is director of the art space Kedai Kebun Forum in
Yogyakarta. From September 16th , his work will be presented at the
exhibition The Global Contemporary – Art Worlds after 1989 at ZKM
in Karlsruhe. Furthermore, we have invited the art historian Paul Khoo,
who studied at Stanford University, University of Chicago and La Salle
College of Arts. Paul is a board member of The Substation, one of the
oldest and most progressive art spaces in Singapore.
The
event, that will take place during the Asia Pacific Weeks Berlin, is
organised by Katerina Valdivia Bruch in collaboration with art &
culture international e.V.
With the support of the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations and KUNSTBÜROBERLIN.
Address: KUNSTBÜROBERLIN Uhlandstraße 162 10719 Berlin
